MIT Summer Research Program Final Symposium - Mechanical Engineering Department
Nicole worked under her, PI Dr. Neville Hogan, and mentors, Michael A West and Dr. Federico Tessari, to better understand human hand behavior. She presented her research project on force synergies of a complex manipulation task at the MRSP Final Symposium at MIT on August 4, 2023. She then went on to continue her research through the Fall 2023 semester as an MSRP Extension Scholar. Nicole presented her additional findings, present on this portfolio, on November 16th, 2023.

Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Scientists (ABRCMS)
Nicole was recognized as one of the few oral presenters at the conference. Additionally, Nicole was selected to be a travel awardee. She presented her research from the MIT Media Lab where she worked under PI Dr. Hugh Herr and mentors Chris Shallal and Guillermo Herrara-Arcos. Nicole and her team presented their final presentation and white paper to the APL community at the end of a year of summer and sustained research as part of the CIRCUIT program. She worked under her mentor Raphael Norman-Tenazas on a swarming robotics project where she was the lead hardware engineer focused on hardware-software integration. This project is not present in the portfolio as the subject matter is no longer in line with Nicole’s interests.

University of Virgina REU Symposium
Nicole presented her research virtually at the UVA REU Symposium. She worked under her mentor Dr. Pim Oomen and PI Dr. Jeffery Holmes. Her project focused on recreating a porcine heart failure study in MATLAB to better understand why an unconventional treatment resulted in positive effects for a particular type of heart failure patient.
