An Overview

Nicole is a Mechanical Engineer who recently graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She graduated Cum Laude in December 2023 as a Grand Challenge Scholar, Honors Scholar, and Meyerhoff Scholar from the M31 Cohort. Nicole is also a Fulbright Finalist for the 2024-25 application cycle and a Specialization Tuition Waiver Awardee for the SDA Bocconi MIHMEP program.

Her research interests include health equity of medical technology, health disparities in the US healthcare system, prosthetics, exoskeletons, orthopedic surgery, brain and spine injury rehabilitation, and assistive robotics. Nicole is applying to PhD programs in Medical and Mechanical Engineering after completing her specialized MBA program overseas, as the next step in her academic journey.

Her ultimate goal is to innovate medical devices that augment the scope of care surgeons and practitioners can provide for their patients. Nicole wants to design and build mechatronic devices that ease the healthcare system and restore mobility to disabled people. She aspires to dismantle health disparities that result in more people of color dying from treatable conditions. Her ultimate goal is to establish a company that addresses the effects of race and socioeconomic status on one’s access to healthcare and provides lifelong patients with assistive mobility technology.
